JAMB CAPS Portal | Central Admission Processing System

JAMB CAPS as popularly known is introduced as the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) which is geared towards ensuring quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process.

The management of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) portal where UTME and Direct Entry candidates can accept or reject their admission offer.

As part of JAMB new admission policy, all admission would be done online through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), consequently, all candidates seeking admission into Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Other Tertiary/Higher institutions in Nigeria for the 2018/2019 Academic Session are advised to visit the JAMB CAPS portal to check their admission status and also indicate the acceptance or rejection of their admission.

Some institutions may not publish the list of candidates admitted into their various programmes on their own portal or notice board. So, admission seekers are advised to continually check JAMB CAPS to track their admission status.

PLEASE NOTE : Once you accept the admission, your admission quest is over as you will no longer be available for other schools’ admission consideration. On the other hand, if you reject the admission, you become available to other schools who have free admission slots for admission consideration.

What is JAMB CAPS?

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) is an admission processing platform created to ensuring quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process.

JAMB CAPS, The Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) makes provision for a ‘market place’ in the JAMB portal where institutions can go and ‘request for students in Nigeria who score their cut off points.’ If you are offered admission on the JAMB CAPS portal, you can choose to accept or reject the admission.

The system is such that institutions can only admit those who meet their cut off points. If a candidate fails to meet the cut off mark, that student would certainly be denied admission irrespective of the candidate’s connection.

Benefits of Jamb Caps

According to JAMB, the new policy makes provision for a ‘market place’ in the JAMB portal where:

“The new system is such that institutions can only admit those who meet their cut off points,” according to an admission officer for a tertiary institution. “If a candidate does not meet the cut off, no matter whom he or she knows, such person cannot be admitted.”

Also, the JAMB CAPS now makes provisions for candidates to accept and reject any admission being offered to them.

CAPS also looks out for candidates who are unable to go for National Youth Service, NYSC, because they do not have JAMB admission letters. This set of students can now pay a fee for regularisation and will be able to go for the youth service.

JAMB CAPS Admission Status

Sequel to the activation of JAMB CAPS admission status portal, questions have been coming from candidates concerning the meaning of some terms like “NOT ADMITTED”, “ADMISSION IN PROGRESS” etc they see on their CAPS portal.

What You Must Know When Checking JAMB CAPS Admission Status

Though JAMB has not made any official remark on this recently, however, we can deduce the possible meaning of these terms from what was said during the CAPS sensitization programme earlier this year.

If your Admission Status on the CAPS Portal reads “NOT ADMITTED”, it could be that your school of choice is yet to send the proposed the list of admitted candidates to JAMB. However if your school of choice has released its admission list and your admission status on CAPS Portal still shows “NOT ADMITTED” then it simply means that you have not been considered for admission in that school.

For those that their Admission Status reads “RECOMMENDED”, the possible meaning to that is though your school of choice has considered you for admission, JAMB is still reviewing your admission to ensure it complies with all the necessary criteria put in place by your school of choice and JAMB.

On the other hand, if you see “ADMISSION IN PROGRESS…..” it is likely that you have met the requirements to be admitted in your school of choice but not yet considered for admission due to issues like admission quota, ELDS, Male to female ratio etc. This means you may have a chance of being admitted if some other candidates that were offered admission in the school decide to reject the admission.

So if you are yet to be admitted, the best you can do is keep checking back on the portal and hope your admission status changes.

For those who have been admitted, congratulations! Please go ahead to accept your admission unless you no longer want the admission; in that case, you can reject it.

Finally, for those that say they were unable to see anything when they log on to their CAPS portal through their JAMB Profile, please try using a computer system or change your browser.
