UNIABUJA has a student population of 14,000. Also, the motto of University of Abuja is For Unity and Scholarship. Like every other Nigerian university, the school has a senate, which is the highest decision-making authority of the school, a Chancellor who is the overall and ceremonial head of the school as well as a Vice Chancellor who oversees the daily running of the school.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja is Professor Michael Umale Adikwu.
UNIABUJA Accreditation
With the decree establishing this institution, it was approved by Federal Government of Nigeria. But after the expansion of the University, new courses were introduced, so there was need for those courses to be approved as well by regulatory bodies like COREN and NUC.
The initial challenge faced by University of Abuja was the accreditation to courses in Agriculture, Engineering and Veterinary Medicine.
But the Vice Chancellor at a forum in July, 2015 announced that they had been approved. The departments having accreditation issues now are Medicine, Microbiology and Law which have remained largely unresolved.

Note that this figure is not fixed as it is subject to change.

UNIABUJA Grading System
Just like many Nigerian universities, University of Abuja uses the NUC standard for grading its students.
This means that for NUC programmes, grading is done on a scale of 5.00. The rundown is shown below:
First Class Division: (100 – 70 with 5.00 – 4.50 CGPA)
Second Class Upper Division: (69 – 60 with 4.49 – 3.50 CGPA)
Second Class Lower Division: (49 – 45 with 3.49 – 2.40 CGPA)
Third Class Division: (49 – 45 with 2.39 – 1.50).
Notice that NUC has since abolished the Pass Grade in Nigerian universities.
This means that any student who scores below 45 in exam is assumed to have failed it.
UNIABUJA Admission Requirement
All prospective UTME candidates of University of Abuja must compulsorily sit for their Post UTME screening test before they are considered for admission.
Candidates from UTME must score 180 and above, and must choose the University as their choice university. Please note that these scores are subject to change from time to time.
And to be considered for admission, all candidates must have 5 Credit passes including English Language and subjects relevant to their course of choice in not more than 2 sittings.
But in 2015/2016 academic session, it will be different as the authorities of the University have announced that there would be no Post UTME exams for students who intend to do one programme or another in the school.
The spokesman of the University, Waziri Garba, explained that JAMB after the redistribution exercise allocated mere 6,000 candidates despite the 16,000 which initially chose the school as university of choice.
He further explained that the University could admit 4,000, but it would be more expensive to conduct post UTME for 6,000 than 16,000 applicants.
As a result, the school would use departmental merit list as cut-off marks in their various departments to determine who is qualified to gain admission.
Furthermore, Direct Entry candidates must possess the same subject requirement above (that is 5 Credit passes in O’ Level) with OND, NCE, HND, etc.
Direct Entry candidates start from 200L in the University unlike the Post UTME candidates who start from 100L.
UNIABUJA Duration Of Studies
University of Abuja uses the standard of 6-3-3-4 system of education in Nigeria, meaning undergraduates spend at least 4 years doing a program in the University (except Direct Entry candidates).
Also, all other courses offered at University of Abuja follow this schedule of 4 years, but there are variations in faculties like Law, Engineering, etc. which require 5 years.
